Animal Cruelty
'I don't understand the thrills people get from hurting animals and why we have to ruin animals habitats.'
The animal cruelty project looks at issues of hunting, make up used on animals, habitats and the fur trade industry. I was drawn to this this theme through her interest of fashion and wanting to see whats in fashion and what isn't . I then started asking the question why do we need to hurt animals as clothes now are mass produced. The purpose of this project on animal cruelty was to explore the danger to animals and human involvement in regards to poaching.  There has been a variety of mediums used in this project including silkscreen, ink, Adobe Photoshop, paint, collage, pastel and biro pen. The works start of small and get much larger. The animals used to portray this will be ones that communicate her ideas best and how animal cruelty is wrong. The ideas in the work will focus on a variety of animals.
The imagery created in recognizable but at the same time is abstract to give a strong message. The work doesn't focus on propaganda on the adverts and graphical forms as demonstrated on the television, but more the viewer searching for the meaning and interpreting the composition themselves. This body of work was influenced by Elizabeth Frink, Henri Rosseau, Chris Ofili, Japanese and Chinese Calligraphy.
'Huntress' 41.8x89.5cm Mixed Media on canvas 2007

The pop art style piece shows a clear strong message for a fur garment. The piece shows a huntress figurative woman with a cross over her chest representing wrongness. The idea of this piece focused firstly on getting the figure in proportion so the figure was feminine, curvy and also has a face like the one seen in the original sketch. The figure is sexier and shows the texture of the fur more clearly as well. Looking closely at the detail of the figure and can you can see how it has that graphical mass media vibe sketchiness to it, of which is associated with Pop Art movement. Silk is used to create three crosses to go on top of the figures to represent wrong.
'Ocelot News' 42 x59.4cm Mixed Media on card 2007

Exploring the impact the fashion world has on endangered animals and how animals are exploited in the world. Ink has been used to draw the ocelot with ripped newspaper which is layered together in a spontaneous manner to demonstrate the impact of what animal cruelty has on the world and how often it reaches the headlines in newspapers. The image was then scanned into Photoshop and printed off and painted with a watercolor wash to create a contrast against the red.
'Habitat' 29.7x21cm Acrylic paint on canvas 2007

In this composition I have done a painting of similar species but have represented them showing their differing habitats and natural environments if thy weren't in capivity. The red against the green in terms of color shows the contrast of color representing cold and warmth of climates and habitats. The way in which this painting was created was to create an initial sketch on the canvas first and then apply the paint using a tiny acrylic paintbrush to achieve control and accuracy. Then apply a layer of varnish to protect the canvas.
'Hunting' Acrylic paint and ink on canvas 2007

Here three varying different tonal color versions have been created varying in color. The composition is the same in each canvas. Each canvas shows a blade coming down on abstract shapes that remind you of tigers. The composition in terms of style is abstract but not too abstract that you lose the recognizably of the composition. The colors used in this composition are bold and bright making them jump out to the viewer and capture the eye. To draw a sketch outline and was shaded in with a rectangle wide acrylic brush to cover larger areas of canvas to achieve a flat even cover of paint.
'Man spears Earth' Acrylic Paint on canvas 2007

In these two paintings the calligraphy reads 'Man spears Earth' a statement that reflects humans attitude to the Earth. The background uses the tiger pattern seen countless times in this project.
